Admission Rules

Admission Rules set out the qualifications that a person who wants to practise law must obtain before being admitted to the legal profession by the Supreme Court.

The Admission Rules were developed by the Admissions Committee and made by the Legal Services Council.

The Uniform Law requires the Admissions Committee to develop Admission Rules in consultation with others and, with the approval of the Legal Services Council, to release a draft for public consultation.

The Admissions Committee released a consultation draft of the proposed Admission Rules for further input in November 2014 and invited written submissions.

The consultation draft reflected proposals agreed to by all Admitting Authorities in 2011 and, through the Law Admissions Consultative Committee, submitted to the former Standing Committee of Attorneys General Working Group on Legal Profession Reform.

Further information about how the rules were developed is set out in the Explanatory Paper.
