Western Australian Uniform Law Bill passes the Parliament

08 April 2022

On 5 April 2022, the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Bill 2021 passed the Western Australian State Parliament. A media release from the Western Australian Attorney General, the Hon John Quigley LLB JP, is available here. The commencement date of the legislation has not yet been announced.

The Uniform Law has been operating in NSW and Victoria since 2015 and currently regulates around 68% of all legal practitioners Australia-wide. When Western Australia joins the scheme, this will increase to 75% of the profession nationally.

The Legal Services Council looks forward to continuing to work with all parties in the lead-up to the legislation commencing in Western Australia in the coming months.
